metzeler 880s not last?

My Metzlers last at least as long as the ill handling Dunlops I always replace. Those who complain about poor milage must not keep them inflated properly. Metzler ME880s require higher air pressure than the Dunlops. I got 12,000 out of my last rear. The fronts, I always replace after the second rear and they are still okay, but I don't run bald tires. The improvement in handling and their not following every groove in the road would be reason enough to change even if they got lousy milage. They don't, if you run them properly inflated. That's my experience anyway.

You guys must be pretty rough on the stock Dunlops...
I've used them on all my Harley's for years, and usually replace both the front and rear at the 10,000 mile mark. At that point the front still has good tread, but I've gotten in the habit of replace both tires at the same time.
That being said, I recently purchased a 100th Anniversity WideGlide, and the original owner had installed Metzler 880's not long ago. The Metzler's only have about 1,500 miles on them now and provide great traction. Not sure how long they will last, but it will be interesting to see how well they wear.
Like someone else mentioned, the Metzler's are designed to run at a much higher pressure than the Dunlops, and I heard that if you run them at too low of a pressure they will wear quickly.

I'm a gal rider and have the Dunlop K591's on my 2007 Low Rider. At 5130 miles it's got 3/32nd's tread left. No burnouts, No hard braking, No hard riding what so ever. No passengers and no luggage. Most female riders aren't aggressive riders. Tire pressure was check before every ride. Hubby has a 2006 FLSTC with 7,000 miles and his isn't half worn out. We ride the same roads. I was told my Dunlops were a "sticker and softer" tire than what's on the Heritage, and most others I've heard also experience low mileage from these kind of tires....including the Metzeler 880's. I think weight of the rider/passengers/luggage, shock tension, type of roads riden, amount of torque, and a variety of other conditions is what ultimately determines wear. I would say I've got another 1500 miles maximum before the wear bars start showing.......but I'm not waiting for that. Going to replace my rear with the new Michelin Scorcher "31" tires.
