Default Oil Cooler

Haven't seen much talk on this forum about Harley Davidson's oil coolers. Seems like it would be a good addition, especially to the 96 inch motor.

oil coolers have been talked to death here! do a search and i'm sure you'll find plenty. There will be plenty of folks saying it's a waste of money and many swear by them. I had one on my 04 Fatboy and now on my 2010 Heritage. If you like the idea then go for it. To me anything to keep it cooler is a good idea.

Thanks. I'm new to the forum and just moved into a new Heritage from a liquid cooled bike. It does concern me but the HDs seem to just keep running.

Oh man, You thought oil cooler conversations were heated(pun intended)?
We have now moved into the "Holy Grail" of pot stirring!
Sit back and watch the fun

But seriously I run synthetic( Mobil 1 ) without an oil cooler (northeast).
If I had to deal with heat or traffic for extended periods, I probably would add a cooler.
As for Amsoil, I keep thinking about it, but haven't tried it yet.

Amazing isn't it? Makes one wonder if they weren't designed to run w/o an oil cooler.

I put the harley one on my heratige. First toss the hose clamps, Junk.
second have a set of small fingers handy 'cause the bolts and nuts to mount it are a bitch.
third when you go to mount the adapter plate, if you can't find a hex style driver to tourge it down, consider a bolt with 2 nuts on it the head going into the adapter and the other in into a socket with a tourge wrench. It's only 15 FT.LB. but it is very important. Also the gasket can be tricky but a dab of RTV on 2 places help.

HD used to have jeggs make theirs but now they are using someone different. It seems that the quality is not the same. When I lived down in Texas I ran an oil cooler due to heat and traffic. On the new bike and being up north I have not had a need.

I like my HD oil cooler on my Softail. I wish Jagg made one that was a complete kit out of the box like HD does and made one to fit between the downtube's like HD does.
