Default Deluxe saddlebags question

Hello. I have an '06 deluxe with the one piece detachable sissy bar/backrest. Will I need any additional docking hardware to install the HD deluxe saddlebags? Thanks.

No, the saddle bag kit comes with hardware adaptable to either with or without the docking hardware next to the fender struts. However, in my opinion you could loose the lower bag brackets anyway. I have 8k on my Deluxe without the lowe brackets, no problems.

That's good to know. Those lower brackets are a bit of bitch. Particularly the left side where in mounts behind the passenger foot peg, it's hard to get a wrench on. And the bottom of the bag on the right is so close to the pipe that it tough to get an allen wrench in there and not rub on that pipe.

Anyway, good luck!

Thats strange! I put the factory bags on my 05 deluxe and did have to get the docking hardware. They must have saw me coming, and thought I was a rich guy, lets pull the docking hardware packet and charge him extra.

The lower brackets I installed without too much trouble. Took some time but I didn't find it to be a problem. They will prevent the bag from vibrating at speed and give more solid support if you carry a lot of stuff in the bags when touring. I would take the time to put them on. Buy the correct tools to do the job, you will probably need them down the road. Put everything together with medium locktite or you will be replacing bolts and nuts later on. I found that out the hardway.

Ride safe!
