There are two threaded holes at the bottom of the tranny case. They have to to be tapped to a larger size.

Doesn't the SAS just bolt to the swingarm in the rear, and the frame in the front, just like the stock shocks?

I'll take your word on that one.

I'm still just trying to figure out why these guys are tapping their 'transmissions' to install shocks.

pic is worth a 1000 words. Not the transmission really, but the bottom of the housing. The threaded holes are already there (don't actually know why) and your making them larger to accomodate the compressor bolts.

I was thinking the very same thing.....if i dont have to tap it i won't...i would much rather just use the same threaded bolts ...maybe just longer??? What are those two bolts in the tranny for? anybody? On the shotgun site there are two different install instrutions. One for a charcoal cannister and one without. What the hell is a charcoal cannister? Excuse my stupidity..As this will be my first air ride suspension install.

Don't know. There aren't any bolts there to reuse. In fact...I'm not even sure, now that you mention, it the holes that are there are even threaded. Probably not which would be the best reason to have to tap them. If they are threaded, the compressor mount holes are obviously larger so maybe a bolt the size of the original holes could be used...if the holes are deep enough to hold ther compressor.
