Default evo vs twin cam

I hava 99 Heritige(evo) that work great for what I use it for except when we go to Sturgis I ride double and the group I ride with likes to cruise about 80 to 85 and I cant seem to slow em down,I am the only softail evo in the group. My bike runs great up to about 75 then that old solid mount evo starts to give off some sort of a hummm and my hands go numb, under 75 im ok.Would a twin cam heritage(2000 and up) be much better or do I need to find a Road King or Electra Glide.Does a Road king with an evo run much smoother than a softail?

My Evo solid mount's were fine for all day cruising as long as you kept them in the sweet spot to minimize vibrations. Unfortunately, you are correct, 75+ mph has them buzzing up. My TC88B was far smoother across the rev range, and I ride it consistently at 80-85 mph all day, you can still feel the motor, but way better than a non-counterbalanced Evo. I can't speak for touring bikes as they are not my scene. Get a TC88/96B Softail if you can.

I have the same thing with my 05 nighttrain. I can cruise for hours at over 60 and my hands are fine but if I varied it on back roads I get the vibration and hands get numb. It's all about the sweet spot. Also your exhaust can change that too. Only know from experience on old ninja crotch rocket. Once I changed out the canister the sweet spot changed and my hands would go numb at 60-75 speed over long periods. Ended up finding decent gel grips and heavier handlebar end weights and that helped it out.

At a guess 6 speed could help since it would change rpm at highway speeds.

The TC B motor is much smoother than a EVO but it still has a high frequency 'buzz' when you get them running 3000+ RPM. If you are going to keep your Softail, I would highly recommend you consider a Touring bike. The A motor is just smoother at any speed above idle and it really shines on higher speeds. A Road King or E-Glide (pick your fav) will give you all day comfort at any speed. By keeping the Softy, you'll have the best of both worlds.
