I,ve seen them on a few of the old military restored bikes but not a street bike. I believe they had a leather holster that is sits in. You might want to look at a few harley restoration sites

I sold a nice original brass fire extinguisher a few months ago on ebay. It mounted with a clip to either side rear frane rail.
