Default Broke down last night

Lost my clutch cable coming home last night and a buddy had to trailer me home. Not sure what happened, bike went out of gear. When I pulled in the lever to downshift, it compressed but nothing happened. The bike lost power and I was able to shift into neutral but before that it was like I was in neutral anyway. Not sure if the cable broke in the housing or if the clutch just came out of adjustment. I attempted to re-adjust the cable only but was unsucessful, lever is super hard to pull in. Any ideas or places to begin? I think I will look at the clutch adjuster in the primary then go from there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Are you able to put the bike in gear by rocking it back and forward ? You should be able to shift the bike if you play with your Rpm's without the clutch.

A similar situation is also happening on my 2003 FXSTI Softail.
It happened three times in the last three days.
During a downshift from 4th ....feels like it's in neutral and nothing to down shift to....just air.
Feathering the clutch and a little throttle helps it rocover and grab a gear.
I was also thinking today that I must need a clutch cable adjustment. I'm glad this thread was started.

I don't know from the description as to exatly what is happening but if you can pull the clutch lever and there is resistance then the cable isn't likely to be broken (unless you have a hydraulic clutch). If you have never used cable lube on you cables that is the first place I would look.
