Default Flush mount gas cap and gas gauge

I just got done installed this kit on my 05 Night Train and I LOVE the way it looks. I always hated the gas cap and gauge because they stuck up a little far and looked out of place, now everything is smooth and looks killer. The installed was WAY easier than I expected. Overall install time, maybe an hour. I'll try to get some pics up later.

I installed one on my new Night Train and in less than 3 months, it failed. The circuitry in the LED control is faulty... and I believe that it's because the unit isn't as watertight as it needs to be. It also doesn't give you a very accurate reading on your fuel level.

You have to learn how to handle Delphi terminals to install this kit.

After some himhawing my dealer got the unit replaced for me. I will be re-installing it shortly and I will pay more attention to how water tight it is...

It does look good, though.

I've got the Six Shooter, and I find a couple of quirks with the LED system.
First, the low fuel light on the console doesn't work anymore, not that that is a biggie. One light is enough.
The second is that is seems to show low fuel when the tank is around half full.
Even with this, I LOVE the LED system. Very easy to read.

Yah, I put a set on my Deluxe, and basically same issue. I don't know about water tight, but the accuracy is signicantly inferior to the gauge. It reads low (red) when I still have two gallons left. I get 46-47 mpg, so the gauge is not even close. Do agree they look great, though.

I've been thinking about putting them on my bike but, after reading this thread, I think I'll wait until the manufacturer gets the kinks worked out. The fuel gauge that's on the bike now works perfectly.

The flush mounts do look cool though.

I'm thinking this will be my next mod. I don't use or look at the fuel gauge...ever. Wish they made this kit without the led gauge all together.

I installed the OEM flush mount myself in mine and the gauge is very acurate.
And as far as water tight the Harley setup has a oring to seal it, no way water is getting in there.
The only place water may get in is around the fuel cap but it won't get into the tank just around the cap and it even states so in the instructions. But I have yet to see water in mine.

How hard is it to remove the oild cap and wire in the new unit? do you need any special tools or electrical connectors?

Takes a little time. Works best if you have a service manual. The service manual explains how to install the wires into the connectors.
Everything you need comes with it. The old gauge pops right out. Big key is to get the right wire in the right slot. But follow the instructions and the service manual and allow yourself plenty of time and its a piece of cake.
As far as tools maybe a set of picks if you happen to get the wrong wire in the wrong slot.
