Different scales, like SAE and metric. There is ROUGHLY a 4 point difference (it can vary). So your 95 is ABOUT like our 91 and your 97 is ABOUT like our 93.

Here in Massachusetts we have (R+M/2) 67, 89, 91, occasionally 92, and 93. I use 92 if I can get it, or 93 if not, although occasionally I will custom brew by filling up with 89 or 91, running the tank half-ish empty, and filling with 93. Believe my owner's manual calls for 92.

Regardless, I've never heard a ping.

What do you guyz think about the ethanol? Other than it being foolish for the gov't to make it. It takes and wastes more energy to make a gallon than you can get out of a gallon.

Almost all brands here in Danville Va have ethanol as about a 10% mix. I can't honestly say I can tell a difference in my 99 sportster. I have put in non-ethanol gas when out of town, and see no difference. I try to use 89 or 91, I don't put 87 in anything buy my truck, those dish pistons don't care what you put in it. Don't get but 12 mpg no matter what, and I put over 500 miles per week on it, lmao.

As far as mpg on my bike, I never got my speedo fixed, so I have no idea what I get.

big difference!!!!

I am in NJ and rode to Sturgis earlier this month and as soon as you get to those states that do not have 93 octane you can hear the pinging from the bike, funny cause my friend who came with us and it was his first time on that ride came up to me and kept complaining that his bike was making pinging noises and he would need to stop at a dealer along the way. we didn't tell him why until he tried to stop at one of the dealer along the highway.....
he did not fully believe us until we where headed back and reached the states that use 93 octane.....

We use 93, BP or Shell; no alcohol or ethanol.

Speedway has 92 no alcohol or ethanol.

Gas America has 92, with ethanol. wont use...

Have Marathon but not sure what it is, My worst mileage is always with there fuel..

Almost all stations have 87, 89, 92or93 only..don't see any 91 here in central Indiana,

I'm in Colorado....91 with dubious amounts of Ethanol is about the best a guy can do here.

what ever the highest is. i was in new mexico and they sell premium at 88 and 89. ran ok in the mountains. i would guess it is the aditives they use in some states that boost the octain.
