Heres an excellent article:http://www.elektro.com/~audi/audi/toluene.html

Mindful of the evil reputation of octane boosters in general, toluene is a very safe choice because it is one of the main octane boosters used by oil companies in producing ordinary gasoline of all grades. Thus if toluene is indeed harmful to your engine as feared, your engine would have disintegrated long, long ago since ordinary pump gasoline can contain as much as 50% aromatic hydrocarbons.

Toluene is a pure hydrocarbon (C7H8). i.e. it contains only hydrogen and carbon atoms. It belongs to a particular category of hydrocarbons called aromatic hydrocarbons. Complete combustion of toluene yields CO2 and H2O. This fact ensures that the entire emission control system such as the catalyst and oxygen sensor of your car is unaffected. There are no metallic compounds (lead, magnesium etc), no nitro compounds and no oxygen atoms in toluene. It is made up of exactly the same ingredients as ordinary gasoline. In fact it is one of the main ingredients of gasoline.

You all better stay outta the midwest, tough finding 91. Glad my bike runs on 87, even the 91 has corn squeezings in it.

Fellow member here gave the inside tip. Toluene is 114 octane. Mixed 1.5 gallons to 3.5 gallons of 91 equals 99 octane.

10:25-1 Compression on a hot day equals big pinging with my build on the 91 octane and they dont have 93 here. Call me a Tard' but my bike dont ping anymore!!

Toluene is not cheap. Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy race gas?

I wish I had this problem. My stock heads & pistons run fine w/ 91.

Here in the P.R.O.K. (Peoples Republik of Kaleeeforneeea) the liberal ***** only allow us 91 octane.

I'm jealous of those who have access to 93...I'd run it in ALL my vehicles...

Sorry Chaz, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity. Here in Oklahoma, most gas stations have 87, 89, 91. Very few have anything else, but I've found one that carries 93 and 101 also. I have the "luxury" of choosing to run ethanol or not....some of our local stations (conoco, shell, valero) have 100% gas, with no ethanol; some don't.

You are onto something! Toluene is used in the 100 LL AV GAS (Aviation Fuel).

I cheat...I add 3% 110 SUNOCO Racing Fuel with 93 pump gas...It adds a little "pop" to the exhaust and does make a "little" performance difference too!
