Default Wasn't a Ping... Was the Nacelle

I thought I was struggling with a bad ping but after some advice here and adjusting the ignition module with no change I started looking elsewhere. It turns out it was the headlight nacelle.

The headlight ring mounts to the nacelle bracket with what I think are called well nuts. These are nuts mounted in rubber. When the screw is tightened down the rubber expands to hold the headlight in place. I guess the rubber also isolates the metal ring from the bracket. At least four well nuts were missing and three were rotted. All the noise was coming from the ring hitting the mount at certain RPMs. Fortunately, the dealership had the parts in stock. For a few bucks I was able to clear up the problem.

This is one of the few times I was able to actually fix something on the bike. Usually I just break something else.

Luckeeeee!!!

I'm essentially stuck with running my Toluene mix when its hot out. Its already a pain in the *** mixing the evil concoction in a big can and pouring the chit in without any spillage! It sucks but the ping is worse.

I'd take the headlight falling apart any day over pre-ignition!

Sir Viking, Never seen bags mounted at an angle like that? At first I thought, wtf! But after looking a bit more I like them slanted. Fits well with the pipes radius. Have you seen other bikes bags mounted like that? They look like throwovers - did you bend the bag bracket back or make your own?

And good job getting rid of the ping!

Depending on how much you need, Xylene mught be a better choice. It costs less and is higher octane (117 r+m/2, vs 114 for Toluene)... so you can use less. Mix 1 gallon w/ 1oz of MMO.

The bag position was out of necessity. They are throwovers. With the backrest bracket I had to slide them forward on the fender a little. That put the slant in them. Unfortunately, they hung so low that the axle tore up the the seam on the bottom. I haven't had much luck with fitting bags on the bike. Eventually, I'll spend some money and get something with brackets that fit just right.

Is is just me or does the Viking's bike seem to have a way more aggressive stance than a stock fatty?

What have you got going on there KK? Is that a 2" drop fron and rear?

Whatever it is your Fatty just has a badass look to it.....Even that Lil' Lazy Boy recliner for the old lady looks good on your bike Bro.

2" front and rear with Progressive 422s and the front end lowering kit. Needs some adjustments though. My back is killing me! I hit a bump the other day and my T-Bag jumped right off the back rest. Luckily it was strapped down.

I'm too ugly to ride 2-up. The seat is for strapping down baggage.

LMAO!

After seeing you post up the big Viking face I was motivated to put my ugly mug up in my avatar as well..... I'm also too ugly for 2-up riding so I threw on a Solo seat just to make sure I wasnt trippin'!

My Wife wont even ride with me.

The 2" rear drop on just bolts can get hairy when ya' hit a bad one on the Hwy doing 75-80MPH. There are times my **** is a good 6" outta the seat!

Your bike has a good solid tough look about it. Now you have that badass new mill to add some bite to all that bark. Nice.
