06 Night Train bobtail fender
I want to get rid of the rear license plate holder on my 06 night train and relocate the plate to a sidemount on the swingarm. The problem is I dont want to remove the black plastic piece but dont want to have to trim it and risk making it look like crap. Does anyone know of an aftermarket option that will replace that huge annoying plastic piece? Any help would be great.

I trimmed mine down using basic hand tools - hacksaw, files, and sandpaper. After getting it to the shape I wanted, I roughed the surface and sprayed it with bedliner (canned from Walmart). I've received quite a few compliments on it, so I'm happy.
During the work (set it up in the fender for a quick look.......

I built my own sidemount out of aluminum and mounted where the passenger footpeg would normally be. I have the Kuryakyn axle covers, so I couldn't do the standard axle mount. I picked up an aluminum plate frame off ebay and, again, sprayed everything with the canned bedliner paint from Walmart.
This was the first mount. I decided it was too thin, so I just doubled it sandwiching Ultra Black gasket maker in-between the two layers of aluminum. Between that and the bolts holding everything together, it seems pretty strong.
I have the LiteN'Bolts for plate lights, but I haven't decided to use them yet.
Thanks ratzila! I have a Platinum Air system on the back of my bike. I can raise it above stock or almost put the fender on the tire. The height and ride are infinitely adjustable.

Looks good Harley Al! Are you going to drop the backend a little? I'm considering dropping the taillight altogether once I get the run/turn/brake module in and see how I like it. Then the bike will always look like the pic above - except red lenses or smoed lenses with red bulbs (or maybe red bulbs with red lenses!).
