For everyone spending big $$$ to buy a new seat
I have been able to go only about 60 miles before my butt goes numb on my stock seat. It doesn't really hurt, but it is uncomfortable. More than 100 has been painful and hurts my back. I've been looking everywhere for a nice replacement seat.
Two weeks ago, I had my seat altered by a local upholsterer recommended by the owner of my local HD dealer.
I just got back from a trip that had me riding 550+ miles a day in the beginning and end, with several 150+ mile days in between. I spent 11 hours in the saddle on the first day.
I had no discomfort whatsoever. My back didn't hurt (shoulder a bit, but thats a handlebar issue) my butt didn't hurt, and it never went numb. I even did 180 miles (3.5) hours without getting off and could have gone farther if I wasn't out of gas.
Anyhow, this wonderful mod was done for a paltry $120 total. Cheaper than any aftermarket seat I know of. No fancy gel, no memory foam. Just a guy that knows what he is doing and 1 day of downtime.
Just thought I would share, and maybe save you some cash.

For me I had the seat shaved so I sit back farther. I also had gel put in.
The guys who do this can usually build your seat up or shave it down, move you foward or back (with in the limits of your seat), add every thing from basic cushioning to memory foam and gel.
The big thing is it's all done to your current seat and it looks basically the same when your done.

Mine was set up to put me as far back as possible and a little lower. He shaved it, gave it back, i told him how it felt, he adjusted more then put it back. It looks same as stock, but when you sit, it feels completely different.
My foam in the back is now even with the stitching on top. I can take pics in the light although I'm not sure you can see a difference.
It went so far back, I had to change my location of the highway pegs. I can also see behind me in my mirrors now. Before I could see my shoulders and the lanes next to me. Now I don't have to buy new mirrors, so it saved me another $100+.

I asked the owner of my dealership. He does some custom work, and I asked him who he uses.
When i went to the shop, I asked a lot of questions to be sure they knew what they were doing.
I'd ask around at the local bike shops. Or, there is a post in the DIY forum on how to do yourself. I know I would have messed this one up though.

My best friend's seat on her 06 Heritage was killing her tush and she really wanted to a bit lower with a deeper pocket , similiar to a Corbin seat......AH HA!!! She ran to Walmart and spent $9 on an electric turkey carver and I shaved it donw for her. It was so simple, and after shaving I sanded a few areas for a smooth look, and restapled the leather back on....it dropped her down 2 inches (flat footed!) and sat her BACK into the seat...she loves it!!!!
