I got the best of both worlds, I bought my dream bike a FAT BOY new in 2008 and set it up for a touring bike. Backrest, sissybar, trunk, saddlebags, GPS with mp3 and sattlelite radio, engine guard, highway pegs, windshield, windshield bag,etc.

 

Rent you a couple of different bikes from your HD dealer. For around $250 you can rent one from Friday morning til Monday morning. That way you could get a good feel for if you would like it or not.......without spending alot of $$ first. That's what I do about once a year when my wife wants to take a weekend trip.....I rent an Ultra.
