Unhappy Charity Ride, Gotta Get Answers

Okay long story short heres the deal. Over the weekend my young newphew decided to sit on the Uncles bike without anyone around, and knocked it over...damn. Throttle cables are broke, rear brake pedal bent, front brake bent, lucky thats it. Ive been putting off buying new bars for awhile and now im just going to do it, gotta get new cables anyway. The problem is, ive got it all apart, thought i had my ducks in a row, and now im getting cold feet on pulling the trigger on the bar order. I want the RSD style apes, getting the road6 because of the price.

The bikes a 93' Springer Softail (FXSTS) standard with LePera Barebones seat (i think, its really thin with no "cup" for back support) and stock risers. Im 5'9 +/- a bit, with only a 30" inseam, and short arms, like 32 dress shirt, lol. I cant decide what height bars to get, 12-14-16? Want hands shoulder height, not lower for sure, if anything a touch heigher. Ive always rode with drag bars but the back needs to be straighter these days and im getting sick of fighting short bars u-turning and pushing around lots.

Sorry for the long winded post but ive gotta charity ride coming up and im startin to feel the time crunch. Short riders, ape lovers, anyone please let me in on what ya know. I know about the search function, and ya ive hunted, for hours, but havent found a "perfect" answer to calm my fears, only wanna do this once, please dont roast me for being a newb or not searching enough, just wanna pick your brains.

Thanks In Advance Guys
Max

I'm 5'11" and I have 12.5" on my Fatboy. They are comfy, but I wish they were 16". For you I would go with 12.5", anything shorter doesn't give the apehanger look IMO. I used +6 cables and brake line. Go for it, good luck.

My hands hit just below shoulder height, so I would think for you they would be right at shoulder, maybe a little above.

I have the 16" Road6Customs bars on my bike and will tell you a couple of things because I'm pretty much the same size as you, arms and inseam. First, unlike alot of apes, the Road6 apes handles angle down (see pic below) vs. going straight out. Second, since they're angled, they are easier to use with shorter arms like our's but still give the "look" of tall apes. I love them and think they'll work fine for you.

I have 14" Carlini's on my heritage. I am 5'8" on a good day, inseam is a 30 also. The 14's are right above my shoulder. I love them. Here's a pic the wife snapped so you can tell how they look.

When I changed the bars on my wife's Deluxe, the local Harley house loaned me several different bars. I brought them home, put the bike on the lift, held the bars in place and let my wife sit on the bike and decide when ones were the most comfortable and which ones looked the best.

Jisham, thank you for bring to light the shape of the bars, thats totally true and helped so much. Im probably going to order all my needed pieces tomorrow after work, anyone else wanna chime in between now and then feel free though. Im getting the cable/wire kit from hill country (unless theres someone better?), then just wait and assemble. Eventually id love to get a sprung solo seat for mine which should bring me up a bit from the lepera.

Quick question though jisham, are thouse stock xbones blinkers just with smoked lenses? they look sharp. Also how was dealing with road6?

I'll post some pictures when this is all said and done too

THANKS AGAIN GUYS

Road6 guys are cool...quick shipping, easy transaction.

Yeah, those are the stock turn signals with HD's smoked lenses.

I had an indy custom shop install the apes and they had my cables custom made locally. They also relocated the front signals at the same time for me.
