Open AC filter; any concerns??

It might be an OK idea in an emergency, but I wouldn't trust it for any long trips.

I run an open filter also but have yet to get caught in a rain storm. I have heard the nylon stocking though but for rain protection, I have heard it is best to spray it down with hair spray as a water repelent. Just an idea and something you could get at any wally world in a pinch i would imagine.

I just got the outerwears pre filter in the mail, seems like a super snug fit, rode around to make sure bike didnt explode with it on and seems ok! Not sure if they made it just a slight smaller than whats needed for the Big Sucker Stage 1, but it will cover it. Just take some tender love and care to get on.

Question to Outerwears:
Question: "Is there any damage to the air filter, by using the cover at all times, even when it is not raining?"
Answer: "No in fact that is what our cover is designed for. It is breathable. I would recommend running it at all times as it will keep out dirt dust and road debris." - Rosemarie at Outerwears
