Installed new tri-bar tail light

fatbob fender taillight mod
The Tri-bar light is sick however it comes with a hefty price tag. Here's my mod. Took a Fatbob taillight(bikers choice) $20 bucks online. Modified the OEM taillight bracket to fit. Used VHT night shades to tint the lens. Purchased 2 LED lights for the turn signals which are super cheap (in the process of making a new one with 12 led lights for a brighter signal) Bike has to led compatible with either a flasher or in some cases a load equalizer. For around $35 bucks and a little time it defiantly gives the Softail a cleaner look without the 250+ price tag. If you want more details on how to do your own let me know. I could possibly make one for you as well.

Green Hornet,
How about posting a pic of the finished job?
We like to see how things come out when they are done.
brettym,
I like your ingenuity in trying to avoid paying the hefty price tag for a Tri-Bar.
But seeing as it was designed to fit the wider fender used on 06 and up bikes with the 200mm tire, it wouldn't fit your bike anyway.
Is there any way I can convince you to post a step by step with pics, if possible, of how you made it in the DIY Cheap thread?

I have a '07 softail and the light is awesome.... BUT.....
There should be a 12,000mile warranty on them hahaha.
Mine started flickering this year, then last week it went out. If I hit it, the light would come back on. But after a few road bumps it went out again. Not fun, especially at night 50miles from home with the ol' lady on the back.
Problem with these lights is there's two circuit boards inside the sealed lense (which is a ****** to get apart). One lays flat... the other stands up on top of it. And after many miles they come loose and shift and the contacts cannot connect. It WILL happen to EVERYONE who has these lights. 4 of my buds had it happen to theirs (two guys broke the circuit boards trying to get inside it to fix!) ... but if you can carefully get the lense apart. You can put some foam or window weather protection foam (sticky on one side) behind the circuit board that lays flat. It'll keep it from sliding loose inside. Then your good to go for awhile.
They do look cool and they do light up the night when brakes are applied.
