Default Deluxe or Heritage Bags on Fatboy

Hi all,

I currently have a 2000 Sportster, but I am going to move up to a Fatboy here soon. I've put a ton of thought into what bike to get and the Fatboy definitely is the bike I want, but I want to be able to put saddle bags on it and I don't like the small bags that are available specifically made for fatboy.

I know that the Fatboy's exhaust gets in the way for larger bags, but if I changed the exhaust to something lower could I install bags that would normally fit a Deluxe or Heritage?

Thank you in advance!

The stock Heritage bags would look pretty sweet on a Fatboy

Check out Ironbags
http://www.ironbags.com/
You can have them accessorized the way you want. They come in various sizes and you can request that they will mount forward enough, so that you don't need to relocate your rear signals.
They are also better quality then the HD bags.

Just make sure they will fit up to fatboy struts as they have 1 less hole in them than the Heritage struts. Don't ask how I know. But swap put the exhaust and put some Heritage bags on it, it will look pretty sweet. The Harley Deluxe bags are kind of small in my opinion, and a lot of people had problems with them. You can usually get a nice set of Heritage bags on ebay for a decent price.

Yea, thats exactly what I was thinking.. the way the bags that Harley Sells for the Fatboy look very odd. Way too small and sitting way too high on the bike. Wils, thats a good lookin bike.

Here is my Fat Heritage. I put V&H Longshots on at the same time. The bags were not a direct fit and required a small bracket to attach to the frame.

I also had to add the same lights on a Heritage as the bags interfered with there placement.

Good luck in what every you decide. Post some pictures if you move forward.

Those look very good! thank you for your replies. I definitely want to do this. I don't want to have the bags on all the time, but if I want to go tour for a bit, I want to be able to bolt the bags on and not have them look silly.

My suggestion is to get a set of used Heritage bags off ebay with a set of quick detach brackets. There are so many other quality manufacturers of bags out there you can often find good deals on those on ebay as well. I like the Iron bags too. Very nice stuff.
