Default California Helmet laws

Haven't received an answer over on the other thread so thought I would bring it here and see if I get one.........
...
I'm taking a trip from Southern Arizona all the way through California, Oregon and up to Washington State next month. What's the skinny on CA helmet laws as far as strictness and what's the punishment for being caught riding Au Natural? Is it an ignore it ticket if you don't live there, or is it serious enough for them to impound your ride, etc?
No helmet laws in AZ.
Hope I'm asking in the right forum.
Thanks,

Check out the law here.

Oregon, Washington, and Nevada all have similar laws.

My daughter and son-in-law live in NV and seem to get away with wearing only novelty helmets instead of DOT.

You will be stopped and/or cited if you don't wear a helmet in California, especially by the Highway Patrol. Novelty helmets will get you by in some places, but don't count on it. You will stick out like a bullseye if you don't wear a helmet. Fines vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Do not believe it's a fixit ticket, and have not heard of a bike being impounded for that alone, but other mechanical violations or driver licensing violations could result in impoundment.

Wellllll, with a helmet it is actually cooler than without as the helmet protects you head from direct rays of the sun and conservers the evaporation of water from your head. The same thing for wearing a longsleeved shirt, it is cooler than wearing a wife beater.

Ask any desert rat.
