Default Deuxe with Fender Rails

I went to the dealer today and inquired about getting fender rails for my Deluxe. The dealer says the wont fit but I know there are many on here with them on a Deluxe. After telling them that their response was "maybe they had them fabricated". I also know the HD dealers say parts wont fit even if it only requires a little modding, like needing a longer bolt of something stupid.

I cant find what Im looking for on here so here it goes.

Question is this, how much modding if any was required to add the HD fender rails to the Deluxe?

Thanks,
Chuck

I'm assuming you're talking about the Heritage fender rails (91080-93
and 91402-00). The only reason why they don't fit is Deluxe fenders lack the crew holes at their tips to accept a nut/bolt -- a non-issue really.

The front is held on with the same four bolts that hold the fender on.

For the rear, you have to drill two holes, one on either side under the last plug in the fender strut.

Then use some auto-body trim grade double-sided tape on the tabs that you can't bolt to the ends of the fenders.

Fairly easy to do. All of this was relayed to me from other forum members here.

Thanks, those are the rails Im talking about. I figured it was something easy to do.

Sorry I couldnt find the posts where the info was relayed to you, do you be anychance know where it is? I tried using the search but still couldnt find the info. I even tried the part numbers and all I get is a return on a pair of Harley boots. Not exactly what I want.

Thanks again.

I think they look great!

Reino, I PM'd someone (wish I could remember who) and he (or she) was kind enough to PM back with the details above. Post back if you have any other questions. It's pretty straightforward.

Couple more tips: Buy decent drill bits (for metal -- I used cobalt bits) if you don't have them already. Tape off both sides of your fender before marking and drilling. Personally, I removed my rear fender to do this mod. And lastly, take your time (measure twice, drill once, etc.).

One more question. I notice on both the front and rear fender rails they have a little tab with a hole in it. It this suppose to bolt to the fender tip? In looking at my fenders I dont see anything the rail could attach to under the tip of the fender.
