A buddy of mine in NC also had the same problem. After many, many attempts at getting it right, I ended up beating the pipe with a ball peen hammer to get the clearance and then I had to Dremel the heat shield. Didn't have that problem on my other 2 Springers. I like the sound. I don't no what I'm losing in performance, because in 40 years of riding, I've never ridden with stock pipes. The Samson's I'm running are also baffled.
the reason for strait pipes working back then you had a carb and a motor that had compression and octane in its fuel now they are low compression fuel injection that is powered by a computer that is programmed to get what it wants leaving out the mech to give you what you need and everything orbits around the junk fuel that is cut with WATER !!! The ecm adjusts itself to run on watered down fossil fuel and wants low comprresion engine back pressure exhaust and controlled fuel injection to be happy if the ecm aint happy no one is happy and all the software to gain these things are expensive leather slapping (wallet) events so when it comes to us old school gents who unlike me who rides ol skool tank shift $&$ super g carb high compression strait pipe fish tails shovel head the gets his rocks off eating this new junk up theres a number you can call 1-800-cry-baby 24 hrs a day 365 days a yr

Unfortunately , the facts do not support your gibberish
An EVO is 8.5
a 2012 T/C is 9.6
An M8 is 10.2
