I would buy the bike you really want
the Yellow 06....
unless of course you have a few extra dollars to throw at a paint job!

I agree, buy the bike you really like. But if you haven't tried a 96ci, test drive one, it might help you decide.

here you can check the 06 and 07 and decide. 07 with thundermax will solve the heat issues.

Ok Some of you may think I am crazy but I am going to go with my heart and take the 06.

Here's the 07:

The thing is owned by an older gentleman in his late 60's.

He showed me all his paper work. He paid almost 20K with the accessories when he bought it new.

He has 2 years left on the Harley warranty.

I took it for a nice ride and it runs great except the Pipes still have the 02 sensors in them and it pops the check engine light every now and then.

One problem was the back wheel had some pitting in the aluminum and I asked him why he did not get Harley to replace it and he said he tried and they would not.

It was clean up top but not as clean as the yellow 06 and he was washing it when I pulled up.

Now here's the Biggest problem.

When I pulled in and saw it for the first time it did not hit me with a square in the chest punch like the yellow 06 did. To me it looks like a Metric bike, maybe it is the color, maybe the over all look, but probably mainly the color and I do not like the striping on it.

I now realize I love the classic look.

He was asking $14500 and when I was getting ready to leave before I said anything he said he would take $13500 for it.

SO I am crazy to be spending about $500 more than I should for and 06 instead of buying an 07 for probably $1500 less than it is worth but I made up my mind and am going with the 06.

I love Harley's and you guys know you can't let money stand in the way of what you like as one guy said.

Don't beat me up to bad!

the 07 is a nice looking bike...
but as i said... get the bike you want....
trust me on this....

I would rather spend 20K on something I wanted as apposed to 15K on something that just fits the bill....

Yellow looks sweeter for sure! Badging on the earlier models is a plus. Traditional fender rocks! Sounds like you are very familiar with Harleys and the tensioner thing... 6 speed, not a big deal. The larger motor does not ride larger . My only comment is one you are aware of - $13.5 for an 06 is too much. Bought my 06 with lots of stuff on it - pipes, stage 1, chrome bling, 1800 miles, and some warranty left last summer for $12.5 and the market for buyers is even better now and 06 values have dropped as they a year older.

That 07 is a good deal with the bags, aux light kit, shield... Low ball him and spend some cash for a custom paint job.

I went thru the same dilemma. Had a new 06 picked out, put a deposit on it, then went back to the dealer and they just got a 07 in. Ended up getting the 07 instead. I love the fat tire, six speed and 96 cubic, but hated the graphics. Still hate them! Whoever came up with that design was smoking something. I agree they do look metric. I like the traditional graphic on the 06 better. I plan to either replace the tins or get a new paint job in the future. Either way, enjoy with your pick.
