on my 2006 street bob I replaced the fuel pump and the fuel float. After getting her all back together she ran fine for awhile but began suffering the exact issues you describe. After taking her to the shop (and already having it in my mind to trade her in on a Softail) they found the problem was an o-ring missing in the fuel pump assembly. (just one of many issues, but the running issue was that).

The dealer told me that the reason it would start, pop, sputter, spit through the a/c, and then die was because of some missing o-ring I either misplaced or didnt have with the new fuel pump. They said it couldnt pressurize the fuel and thats why it would die. They later found other more serious issues with the motor but that wasnt directly related to it not running. Glad I traded it in.

I'll take a look at the idle air control, but it's an intermitent problem. I've started it and warmed it up today then shut her down, restarted and so on a few times and she hasn't messed up yet. I double checked the connections on the PCV and ECU and zip tied them up just in case the connection wasn't exactly right.

It can be intermittant, depending on how much fuel is in the tank. Try full and then low level and see if it make a difference.

pull the pcv out for a while and see if the issue returns.

The first time it happened a couple weeks ago, the first thing I did was to get the gas out of it and put in new gas...it now has a new full tank after I picked it up from the dealer over the weekend...that's when it did it again in the driveway. I also disconnected the PCV when it happened the first time and it was still doing it, then I let it sit for a week before trailering it to the dealer for it's appointment. I'll see how she rides today and keep you posted.

Well she rode pretty good today. One thing I noticed is that she seems to need more gas when starting to go from a stop (more so when cold). When letting off of the clutch and getting on the throttle it bogs down pretty good before I have to engage the clutch a little again to get more rpms and then let out to get going down the road. I'm not sure if my technique has changed or if it is the PCV needs fine tuned at the low end of the throttle. I'm going to look into getting her Dyno'd...maybe that might help out...I don't know. We'll see how she does tomorrow.

dyno tune always helps and if there is a problem then they will find it in the dyno runs
