Do you have to use the rear turn signal relocation kit
Do you have to use the rear turn signal relocation kit when using a detachable back rest with an 06 FXST?
I really don't like the way it looks, like a bolt sticking way too far out with a light on the end. Couldnt they have designed something a little better? Im thinking if I have to use it, maybe I can keep the piece that goes on the turnsignal then build the rest from the hardware store.

Yes, you do have to use it.....
The side plate lock pin (Cam Lock) in the rear is located in such a way that the stock T/S Stalk and it will hit, and you will not get the plate down....
You could always go with custom T/S units...
Maybe a Lic Plate Frame w/Integrated T/S.....
Just a sugg....

I think I've mentioned it before on this forum, but I managed to keep my existing turn signals and just modified the removable sideplates to fit over the turn signals. Just take a Dremel tool and grind away! It took a little while to get grow the ***** to tear up perfectly good sideplates, but it was simple after that! Hardest part is getting both sides identical. Clearance for the lock pins is close, but there is a slight gap so that they don't rub on the turn signal.
I have an 05 night train and did this when I first bought it in May of last year. Got close to 13,000 miles on her now, with the wife on for about half of them, and she hasn't fallen off yet!

Good deal. Thanks for the tips.
I guess I still have more thinking to do.
I like the tag suggestion too. I'll have to research that more to make sure I don't have to have ts in GA. Although, I wonder if that would make the ts on the front look strange. Hrmmm.
Thanks guys.
