Default Replacing Derby Cover

Hi need some help on replacing my derby cover. I have the cover and a new gasket and was going to "straighten" the bike by putting a 2x4 under the jiffy stand. Before I start I was wondering if I would have any problems getting the derby bolts out? and do I need to use locktite when putting it back on? Also I do not have a tourge wrench can I just tighten these bolts back on? I am not a wrench guy but this seems to easy to take to the dealer to have done. Any suggestions, help, info?

Make sure you have the right size torx #27 to remove the bolts. You don't need loctite and you should have a torque wrench. If you over tighten those torx, you'll have to drill them out .... the 2x2 under the kickstand is good.

Those 27 Torx can still strip. Ask me how I know! Otherwise, you could use heat to get them off if they're so tight that they strip your torx bit or the screw head. Be prepared to drill them puppies out though!! :-)

After that, it's easy, breezy, beautiful!

i stripped my torx on my derby cover and rather than drilling it out i got out my dremel with a really small cut off wheel and cut a strait line on the head and got out my flat head screw driver and screwed it out. made it a lot easier
