I am wanting to swap my 07 tank to a 09 tank on my FXSTC. Everything is the same except for the fuel pump. Has anyone done this swap before?

You have several options.You can get the pump/sending unit for the tank your using. But if the old tank is damaged and you have a little time. Section the old tank with a grinder.

First drill several guide holes from the top side just out from the bracket.

Remove the section marked with the die grinder from the tank.

Then remove the 4 spot welds holding the bracket from the bottom side. Being carefull not to get into the bracket itself. Smooth the bottom of the bracket with your grinder.

Now to remove the bracket from the tank you want to use.

Using a dremmel type grinder go into the new tank through the pump/sending unit access window .

Remove the spot welds from unwanted bracket.

Smooth the inside of the tank to accept the bracket previously removed from the other tank.

Spot weld the brackets in.

Sounds harder than it is. Cheaper than a new pump set up.

 

thanks for the reply. Getting a new fuel pump and regulator assy is $340 at lshd harley dealer with the 20% discount. I have a dented 07 tank i bought off ebay i will be taking a look at this weekend to see what i can do.
