About ready to buy a crossbones. The dealer (& owner) says that the Matte finish bikes are a bad idea because you can't keep them clean and they get covered with fingerprints. He also says it isn't paint, it's powercoat. Does he know what the hell he's talking about? Input would help with my choice. Thanks,

The person that you were talking to is full of crap. I looked at the air dry paint part numbers and they are as follows:

my sportster was vivid black and the flat is easier to keep clean, I have never really seen a fingerprint on it.

 

I have Denim Black. You clean it with soap and water as you don' t want to 'polish' it so it gets a shine. It doesnt' show fingerprints but it will show oil smudges, like from your sunscreen ect... they can be wiped off wiht soap and water, but until then you'll have a oily smudge on your other wise lack luster finish.

 

Windex does the trick on the denim paints too. It's even easier than soap and water. Nothing to dry. It just evaporates.

 

I would say that you dealer does not have a clue!
or he is probably trying to sell you a less desirable bike... like the yellow bike with the pink dots!

My friend just painted a denim Sportster for the local dealer, and the bike is clearcoated just like any other paint combo they offer. The difference is the clear uses a flattening agent.

If the dealer doesn't know that, then I would suggest a different one. Who knows what else they're going to tell you, just to get your money. Ignorance of their own product = untrustworthiness, in my book.

 

Bought an '09 black denim crossbones today. different dealer, better price, good people. Pick it up tomorrow. Thanks for the advise, it made my choice easier. (think i'll sleep tonight?)

you're gonna love the paint....a little windex and it's good to go. I'll say it...I don't think I'll ever want gloss paint on a bike again. It's a lot nicer riding than it is cleaning all the time!
