Default Pickin out some apes

I want to get some apes for my 06 FXST but cant decide on how much rise I really want. Ive come across alot of pics of some great looking bikes, but I either cant figure out the scale as to how they would relate to my riding position or the rise isnt listed and I dont know what the rise is in the particular pic. Would yall be so kind as to post some pics and list the size of your apes? Thanx for the input and help.

Here is my Night Train with some custom bars from BRCustoms. He makes some really nice bars, but it usually takes about 6 weeks or more to get them. I have 1 3/4" risers in these pics. And the bars are 16" tall from bottom to the top. So hand placement is probably 14". While on the bike my hands are about shoulder high and I'm 5' 7" tall. Since these pics I have changed risers out and put on the stock risers from the night train. Think they are 6" or 6 1/2". I don't like the looks near as much with the tall risers, but it is way more comfortable for me. I can ride all day and it don't bother my neck or shoulders.

Chop On,
Robert

I just went through this same process of figuring out which apes to buy. My issue is that I'm only 5'6" and I need sufficient pull back in order for me to sit back and be comfortable for touring. I looked at pictures on the web until I was blue in the face. I sat on as many bikes as I could locally with apes and I was surprised that even 14" apes didn't seem too tall, but the pull back was always not enough. So I finally had the bright idea to work backwards. I sat on my '06 FXST with stock 4.5" risers with about a 1.5" pull back and stock bars at a rise of about 6", with a pull back of about 10". I then positioned my arms/hands to where I thought felt good and measured the additional height and pull-back compared to my stock bars. I figured I needed an additional 2-3" of pull-back and I could go 2-3" higher and still keep my arms parallel to the ground for good blood flow to the fingers. Then the search for bars and risers started all over again but this time with known specs. Maximizing the pull-back for comfort and maximizing height for the cool factor, I found a set of chrome 2.5" risers with 1.5" pull-back and Wild 1 10" mini apes for a total height of 12.5" and a total pull-back of about 13". Sure I would have liked to go with Wild 1 12.5" or even 14" apes, but the pull-back would not be enough for the 300-400 mile days. Just waiting on parts now. Hope this helps.
