Default Removing clear coating from fork sliders?

Has anyone tried this? mine are starting to pit from stone chips, can this coating be removed and the sliders be polished if so what is the best way to tackle this job? also has anyone tried the power coating that is close to chrome or should I just go with chrome plating? thanks for any info.

Get some chrome ones and call it done. Once they are pitted there is really no saving them. You can get a chrome plated set off ebay for about $200 bucks already plated.

I hate to say it, but do a search. somebody post did a write up, a couple of years ago, on the best process of sanding them. I guess it is a problem for guys in Florida with the sand.

Yeah, I saw a guys whose was brilliant and he said they were all pitted and he polished them by hand and they were smokin'. Mine were pitted to hell so I opted for a set of black sliders for my nightrain, lovin' it. You can get yours chromed for about $150. Thinking I might get my old ones chromed and sell them on ebay for a few hundred, or not. Maybe I can polish them up and sell them for a few dollars.

I agree... just buy the chromed ones. If you have a good chromer around, then I would wait till winter time, and have them chromed. I think I am gonna get mine done next winter. We have a top of the line chromer in Nashville (Advanced Plating).

Check the Dyna forums, in the under 50 bux thread or just do a search, many of the Dyna bunch have done this and it looks great!

I have used a Scotch-Brite pad and removed most of the pits...and coating...left them with a nice "Exile Cycle" look...this was many years ago...
I'm sure you could do the same...and then take it a few steps further to get the polished look you desire...

IMO at the end of the day....it is probably cheaper(time and money) to buy the chrome units!
