when you pull the plug apert there is a orange cap on the end, this cap pops off, then look in the middle of the plug, each male pin has a lock, all ya do is put a small flathead screwdriver in there and move the little tab over,it helps to be pullin the wire a little cause when ya flip the tab it will help pull the male pin out, repeat for all 6 pins.
Be sure you make a diagram and or take pics of how the pins(wire color) are in the plug...
I did my wires and extetions on the bars in about a hour and a half..

yes they are driving me crazy
mine looks just like that those ones are those sons a ------
I'm not sure if they are like my Fatty, but does your bike have connectors that look like this pic? Are the wires routed through the handlebars? If so, I used dental-tools to release each individual wire from the molex-style housings. It's very tedious work. Make sure you have tons of light if you're gonna tackle it yourself.

Tip #1) Be aware that you only have to release the wires from the sides of the housings that are closest to the front of the bike, NOT both halves of both housings.
Tip #2) The molex housing consists of two halves. The "stationary" half which is secured to the bike frame can remain there if you wish. I was able to complete my work this way, however, if you gently pull the housing slightly away from the frame, you CAN release the tab on the backside of the housing to release it with a small flat-head screwdriver..... but like I said, you do not have to.
...... more to come shortly, I'm gonna read what everyone else is saying here... it helps jog my memory... hehe
I also was drawing lots of crazy diagrams, however, when it came time to re-assemble everything, I realized that the wires on the remaining intact portions of the housings lined up the wires perfectly, so the diagram was of no use. ranger56528 is right.... once you get the hang of it, it's a 5 minute job. When it comes time to put all of the wires back through the bars, I just snared them with a piece of string and pulled them through. It was easy-breezy. Make sure you remove the rectangular orange rubber seal contained in the housing. You will be tempted to pull the whole bundle through the bars, and you may actually be able to do it with the 6-pin side, but the 8-pin will likely "bind" inside the bars. I found the rubber seals to be very durable, and at first I was handling them very gently, but I realized you can be pretty rough with them, and I didn't tear them at all.
If you absolutely MUST pull the complete housings away from the frame, you may tear the "Christmas Tree" barb plastic connectors that secure them to the frame, but don't panic, they are a snap to replace. Order a few extras if you are thinking you might ever have to go through the exercise again. I can't imagine there are more that 25 cents each (yes, even at HD)
