Default Lowering A Heritage Softail

Question I have an 07 Heritage Classic I want to lower the rear end. I was told you can get a lowering kit instead of replacing the rear shocks. Looks like they remove the bolts from the end of the shock and add longer adjustable bolts. Has anyone had this done to there bike, if so do you like the ride?

You need to get the new bolts pressed in if you do not have a press. Yes, this can be done. There are a few options for lowering and this is probably the most cost effective.

Yeah, you have to get them pressed in. Did that to me last bike and liked it. You do give up some suspension travel and will probably have to bump up the preload to keep from bottoming out. Especially riding two up. I thought it was livable. This time was thinking about waiting till I can afford to buy shocks. Too many things going on right now. Anyway, watch out for speed bumps I used to drag the frame every once in a while. If I remember right I lowered it 1 1/2".

I got mine set up this exact way when I bought it (I'm short, so this way my feet are flat at stops) I think it rides great! I even got the floorboard extenders and I rarlely scrape during a corner.

Thanks for the information this is good to hear. The shop doing the repair showed me the lower kit and it screws into the old shock. So it looks straight forward.

Mine is lowered with the bolt kit. I like it. Have had no problems with the wife on the back and bottoming out. The ride is just as comfortable - as to be expected from a sled. I can take a turn like a dirt bike, tilting the bike while I sit up-right. Mine is low enough that with the bags off I can just walk right over the tail and sit. I am 5'9"

There are other methods of lowering but they get pricey. That is all I can say on this subject due to the recent temporary ban.
