Red face New Battery tender

I have my bike indoors and was wondering if you just plug these things in or do you have to ventilate, remove the bike cover, disconnect the battery from ground or what. It is a Dellran battery tender junior. Thanks for you help in advance.

just plug it in, most come with a lead you connect to the battery and tuck in when unplugged, if it is going to be parked more than a couple of weeks just plug it in and forget it.

Just plug it in and forget about it (until it's time to ride). Got mine off ebay for about $25 with shipping. Came with an extra set of leads so it doubles once in a while for the tractor.

My INSTRUCTIONS THAT CAME WITH IT say just plug it in, I didn't disconnect anything. I have one on the bike and one on the Mustang all winter. It can stay hooked up to the battery for the winter, no worries about the battery at all.

Smile Plug it in whenever you can.

Batteries will self discharge over time and with the new bikes and the security systems on them they discharge at even a higher rate. A battery will only take so many discharge/recharge cycles, so if you keep the battery up to full voltage, you keep the sulfation rate down on the lead plates within the battery. This is what a battery tender is designed to do--keep the voltage constant and at its prime voltage.

Do not worry about drying out the battery with a battery tender. The recharge rate is so low that the battery never gets warm and the water within the cells does not evaporate. The newer technology gel cells do not release much water vapor to start with, so this is not really a problem. If you do heavy-hard recharges then you will open the pressure release valves on the gel cells or absorbed glass mat type cells and it will dry them out. A battery tender is not high enough amperage to do this damage.

Like they said plug it in each time you aren't using it and then forget it.

Good Riding!

I dont leave then plugged in all the time. I have one tender and it is used on 4 vehicles. every other day I go into the garage and switch it to another vehicle. it gives me an excuse to pop in and look at what I can't ride......
