In the old days everyone used to think that chain guards were stupid, too...

I have seen what a broken chain can do to an engine case so I never took mine off.

If the belt only comes apart in one spot, I don't suppose that it would have much of a chance of embedding itself in your thigh or left side... and I haven't heard of belts doing anything more than snapping in one spot.

Me... I'm too cheap to buy sprockets... just because I want to look cool and risk getting a rock between the sprocket and the belt. I just dug a rock out of the space between the swing arm and the primary case... so I'm sure it can happen.

Both of mine are on its more chrome and helps protect belt.

I removed mine the moment I got home with the bike. It's like when you were a kid, the first thing you did with a new bicycle was take off the reflectors... not as safe but who cares.

i removed mine. no issuse..........cut the tabs off and really cleaned up the swing arm.

LOL.............upper and lower chrome belt guards for sale, fits 99 softail.

Both of mine are gone, and I've had no problems. If I had to do it all over again, I'd grind the tabs off of the stock swingarm BEFORE I had it chromed.
