Default Oil Coolers

Been doing some research and shopping for oil coolers. Anybody have any opinions or recommendations as to which is the best route to take (i.e. Harley or after market-Jagg, V-Cooler Chrome, etc.)? Any recommendations on where or who to buy it from?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

HD ones are the best. They have a thermostat in them so they won't over cool and let the oil warm up.

I have the HD Oil Cooler on my Softail and am happy with it's performance.
It has the built in thermostat and even on 100 degree days here in California my oil temperature stays right around 230-240. I run Redline Syn. On cooler days my oil stays at about 210-220 degrees.

American Iron magazine recently did some articles on oil coolers. Their tests showed less pressure drop with the Jagg vs the HD cooler. Also the Jagg adapter routed the oil to the filter first which supposedly results in greater flow. I went with billet oil cooler from Eastern Performance and a Jagg thermostatic adapter. With ss braided hose and everything ended up being more expensive. From my research and also according to American Iron the Jagg oil cooler would be better. My choice was based on appearance first. Syke claimed up to 30 degree drop, I was hoping for 15 and saw around 20. I'm satisfied. I'll try and post a pic.

HD rider really like the looks of the Syke billet cooler from Eastern Performance. Currently they have it listed as a monthly special of 199.00 with free shipping. Was wondering 2 things were did you buy the jag thermostatic adapter? Assuming that the Syke cooler does not have a build in thermostat?

Thanks, BH

We sell a ton of Jagg coolers and thermostats......if I can help let me know. I have never had one returned or had a customer complain. Lots of the bagger guys run them and swear by them.

Yeah, I like the Sykes. Looks great (IMO), not very big and on my bike I can mount it inside or outside the frame tube. It's only 7 1/4" long and sticks out from the tube 2 3/4". I actually think I got better than a 20 degree drop. On a 95+ degree day running at 70 mph it'll do about 220 oil temp. When the bike was completely stock I was looking at 245+ in the same weather conditions. On a 70 degree day running 70 mph I see 195-200. Got the adapter from American Classic it does not come with one, I checked and they weren't showing any in stock. Good thing, delivery took way too long from them. Try shooter64. Sorry I took so long getting back to you. Had to go for a ride. Ha Ha

I have the HD cooler and even if its not 'the best' one out there. It fits, looks decent, works, and its all in one box. That's a tough combination to beat. Not that it can't be done, and done well if you want to get creative like others have done. But it can be a lot more work for only a small advantage (except for getting a different or unique look), but that's just my opinion.
