I have HD syn in all 3 holes works great. Synthics are the way to go. I raced cars for almost 20 years and used Mobil 1 in the motors and Mobil 1 gear lube in the trans and rear and never had a problem with lube

Harley hasn't recommended the syn3 in all three holes for quite some time now. They recommend it for the engine only.

I am using Amsoil Severe Gear in the tranny and a 20-50 in the engine. I am very happy with it.

P.S.
my 01 fatboy has been running syn3 in all 3 holes since it came out 2002. it has 46,000 miles on it not one trip to a dealer in the 8 years I have own it. last summer I did the cam chain tensioners, put it all together and decided to go with Mobil 1. she is purring still today.

on another note does anyone else feel dirty when they say "all 3 holes" in this post or is it just me....

I tried Amsoil in all 3 last year and could not find netural and hard the loud clunk going into first gear. After 150 frustrating miles I switched the tranny to redline shock proof heavy and instantly found netural and the clunk was gone. I am considering trying Amsoil 75-110 in the tranny this year.

i have run Redline in everything i have ever owned for the trans. Amsoil is a good product but just read up on it before you waist your money on something that you will not like
