I say skip the sportster and go ahead and get the softail. Too many riders find that after buying the sportster they wish they'd have gone ahead and go the big twin to start out with. If you've any confidence at all you'll be happier with the bigger bike I think. I've ridden sportsters and softails and I think that there's no comparison. Also to my surprise, the reach was shorter on my '04 softail than on all the sportsters I've been on. The seat is lower and it is a better feel to the bars. But...as always... it's your decision. If you plan on doing any two up I strongly suggest not buying a sportster.

Exactly! Her wreck had nothing to do with the bike. The bike clearly handled like a dream. And for someone with such modest experience to ride it the way she did, no one could deny that the NT can be ridden well by experienced as well as new riders.

The Night Train wasn't my first bike, but it was my first Harley.

I think its a great bike.
