Default Wanting a little Extra Power Boost- Stage 1 Opinions?

Does the Stage 1 kit deliver extra HP and Torque? Looks a little pricey, so before I spend, would appreciate all of your thoughts and experience with the kit. I have an 05 Springer FX that I love so far, but would like to get a little more pull without major mods.

What are you considering the stage 1 kit. The kit is actually just the breather upgrade and ecm download. Most people install pipes at this time too. You will get a slight hp gain with this setup but mostly the bike will just run better. The best thing you can do is skip the ecm download and go with a SERT or PCIII.

If you are looking for a feeling or boost in the "Seat of your pants"... Your best bet is the Stage I Race....

These are your options...

1450 Stage I Legal SE A/C and SE Pro Slip Fit Mufflers, appropriate ECM Flash
1450 Stage I Race SE A/C and SE Pro Performance Exhaust, Appropriate ECM Flash

Or you can go with a completely different set up... Piecemeal your own Stage I (K&N A/C, Cycleshack slipons, DFO or PC)

Terry, I was considering the Air Cleaner and related programming. The Bike had D&D staggered slipons and I assume related FI program. WIll the less restrictive air cleaner help? Do I need to reprogram for this?

I did the S1 and added SE Pipes. This added a good extra bit of kick for sure, and the SE2 Pipes look great - no burned ankles also when giving the wife a ride!

A few years back when I took my bike in for the 10K Service,
I had my "Harley Stealer" install the Stage One Kit on my bike.
I gained an extra 10 HP and on a Harley that's a kick in the pants.
I added the V&H Longshots, had it "Dynoed" w/o the baffles.
It was well worth it. Now I want more, a lot more... But, that will have to wait. $$$

Hi there,

The standard Stage 1 doesnt do much other than let it breathe better, the Screaming Eagle pipes sound GREAT if you can still get them, no longer offered in UK. THe best power uplift for me was the 1550 kit and first level up on cams, still an every day ride but big kick when you want it, no need to have a fire breather to get better power!

Shovelhead Bob,
You refer to a "legal" and a "race" setup, is the only difference between race and legal in the pipes? Different downloads? I assume there is only one SE A/C units available (for F/I 88B), but I see part #29773-02B on HD's website, and #29440-99C listed in the SE parts catalog, and assumed the 29440-99C was just an old part number, as it does not come up on their search. I know this subject has been beat quite a bit, but appreciate patience from those that know.

I am also curious about the download / flash for the '06 softails. A Service tech I talked to on the phone said the '06 flash is a "digital download" as opposed to the '05 and older bikes getting an actual "cartridge". Any of you service techs able to explain how the '06 is done? Other than hooking it up to their computer, and hitting the right buttons, is there any "finesse" involved in the procedure? Are there different downloads available for race vs. street? One dealer I called charged 1/2 hour labor for the download, another charged 1 hour. If it's a procedure that takes some experience, I don't mind paying the more experienced dealer for the extra half hour.

I know the majority of people here say not to waste time/money on the HD download, and just get the SERT or PCIII, but I am still leaning towards the HD flash since I don't ever plan on more than the A/C and slip-ons. BTW, I just ordered some SE Pro Torque slip-ons, wondering if the download for the Torque pipes is different than the one for SEII pipes.

Thanks for your patience in helping those of us that are new.
