Here is just a section of the ECM updates for the 06 Softails..... The 8 and 25 are injector types.... Please note the package requirements... HD is VERY specific in the engineering of the flashes...

On some of the flashes you will see "/DT"... That means it is available in our Digital Technician Computer system... No /DT means that it must be via the cartridge, and that also takes a tool called a Scanalyzer to install...

The install and road test should be no more than 15 minutes....

Pro II, Performance and Torque Muffs will work with the correct race type download...

06 Softail except FLSTSCI
1450 Stage I Legal 34236-06/DT 8 SE A/C w/ Stock Exhaust
1450 Stage I Legal 34236-06/DT 25 SE A/C w/ Stock Exhaust
1450 Stage I Race 34401-06 8 SE A/C and SE Pro Slip Fit Mufflers
1450 Stage I Race 34391-06 25 SE A/C and SE Pro Performance Exhaust
1550 Stage I Legal 34263-06/DT 8 SE Stage I Big Bore. Stock Exhaust
1550 Stage I Legal 34369-06/DT 25 SE Stage I Big Bore. Stock Exhaust
1550 Stage I Race 34407-06 8 SE Stage I Big Bore, SE Pro Slip Fit Mufflers
1550 Stage I Race 34389-06 25 SE Stage I Big Bore, SE Pro Performance Exhaust
1550 Stage II Legal 34240-06/DT 8 SE Stage II Big Bore Kit, Street Legal with Catalyst Muffler
1550 Stage II Legal 34375-06/DT 25 SE Stage II Big Bore Kit, Street Legal with Catalyst Muffler

BTW, I never got a PM from you... FWIW...

Shovelhead Bob, if a guy is just putting on a SE air kit and SE slip on Mufflers and this will be it, will the HD flash be good enough? Would the PCIII be overkill ? Thanks'

The flash will be good for your average, everyday bar, err, Church hopper, as well as the long runs....

But, understand that these flashes still maintain a certain level of "Ineptness"...

What I mean by that is, it's not the set-up that you are going to take to the track and do 10's...

...but it will richen it up to the point that it runs well, doesn't lean pop, and you won't cook a hole in your piston...

Once you change the amount of air coming into your motor, you MUST recalibrate your fuel and sometimes ignition, to compensate for it....

Sometimes with exhaust only, you don't have to recalibrate, but some instances you do....

Once you do both, you HAVE TO RECALIBRATE.....

PC's... they are okay, but why have an external modem, when you can go right to the heart of the ecm, and recalibrate... that is the SERT....

I have an 06 Night Train installed the Stage 1 air cleaner, The Screamin Eagle 2 exhaust and the SERT and Dynoed it jumped to 75.4 HP and 77.8 ft lbs of Torque. And I can really tell the differance for now I'm sure after a while that won't be enough than its on to the next stage but I do have the SERT allready in there so I'm ready to move on up.

A stage one with modest airflow and tuning improvement (K&N and recalibration or whatever you fuel injection guys do), and some decent pipes or slip-on's, would be just fine for a "bolt-on" solution for alittle more power... I'd recommend it if you don't plan on doing something more like a 95" or 103" kit. I have a problem seeing the economical benefit of bumping up any higher than just adding some airflow and some good exhaust with a stage I kit.

For my type of riding, before I went that direction, I'd:
slap in a gear cam drive (relatively stock geometry.. done to replace the chain tensioner setup.. for reliability),
Install a 6-speed gear set (for lower highway RPMs),
maybe consider having the heads ported by a good pro, and stick with the 88 inches.

So the Stage 1 "RACE" download is only for the 06 models?

Bob,
You seems to be a knowledgeable man in these matters. I've an related question; How do I change the idle speed?
My Deluxe 06 with SERT and SE-air and Samson True Crossover is reving too high for my liking. It was like this when delivered from the dealer.
The dealer is 80 miles from here so I do not like to have to go there for everyting need to be adjusted. I invested in the SERT because everybody told me it is a breeze to tune whatever I need!
After trying to read the manual I do not understand how to handle the SERT.
Since english is'nt my native language and the manual seems to have a vocabulary of its own, I just gave up...
In the trying to understand it.

Asking people over here in Sweden is like 'Oh it's no problems. It's easy' But when I asks HOW to do it, the answers is more like 'Oh, I don't know exactly. But it's easy...'

BTW, I never got a PM from you... FWIW...

what exactly are the 8 and 25 injector types?

I have a SERT and the dealer where I bought my bike from installed the stage 1 kit and SE pro double barrel exhaust on the bike before I bought it.
I am going to hook up the SERT to the bike tomorrow and find out which flash I have in the ECM.
I see that the "legal" flash uses the 8 injector type and the "race" uses the 25 injector type.
I'm just curious that if I have the "legal" download in the ECM, will I gain anything by putting in the "race" download?
and will I need to change injectors?

New here to the forum.

Question, I have a 02 Heritage softail with a stage-1 kit, K&N airfilter and drilled out stock pipes. Problem: stalling & backfires. The carb was re-jetted, three times, but it still backfires back through the carb and stalls after about an hour of riding (randomly) when I am stopped or slowing down to do so. Dealer has test driven the bike and cannot get it to happen.

The dealer keeps telling me it fine. Any ideas Guy's?

Thanks.

BadKitty
