I'm not surprised you couldn't find it. I had to look in the parts manual to get a better idea where to start looking for it.
Anyway looking in from the right (exhaust) side of the bike. You should be able to see a tin cover on the top of the tranny. In the rear near the middle of that cover is the vent tube.
Now it doesn't extend down the rear more than an inch or so. It is one of those formed rubber tubes like molded radiator hose (just a lot smaller).
It comes out the rear and immediately turns to the left side of the bike then goes up about an inch, across another inch then turns down and ends about an inch or so below the vent tube outlet in the trans cover.
So its WAY up in that area behind the tranny, but way up where its very hard to see unless your looking straight up from under it.

Good Luck and let us know what you find.

thanks Citori, I'll check some more tomorrow. DaddyKnuck, it could be tranny fluid. My engine oil has almost 1500 miles on it.

nighttrain72970 - no an oil leak is not acceptable, but I dont' think it's a leak. If it was a leak, it would leak regularly. Since it only happens "very occasionally", I think it is blowing out a vent hose.

I just went through this! It was a small drip almost in the same place but a little more towards the primary. Turns out it was a main seal from the tranny and the drip was the same exact color as yours. I had a local shop check it out and they changed the main seal and a few others, there are like 5 gaskets and seals that I had them change out while they had the primary off and was up in there. Took it for a 90 mile trip after and not one drop after. Get a mirror under the primary and start tracking it. Good luck, hope it's nothing major.

The oil level is well within specs, it is between the lines when cold, and when hot, it is at the 75% - FULL HOT mark, depending on oil temp. The main reason I do this is because when i run it all the way up, I get a tiny drizzel of oil on the filler neck around the dipstick gasket. Plus, an overfilled oil tank can result in oil blowing out the A/C as well.

MIne had the exact same spot. The oil was leaking from the drain tube on the back of the oil tank. It would run down to the frame and run across the flat strip of frame that runs at the rear shock mounts, then drip on the floor from that location. I replaced the hose clamp and everything is copacetic. Wipe the top of that flat strip and see if it's got oil on it.
