D&M Black Spike here. Like it but it does stick out a tad bit more. Nothing I can't live with. The sock is important but don't forget a carb support also.

Salty, do you have the engine guard as well? My pegs mount to one, and are pretty wide

Thanks to both of you for commenting!
thanks for the compliment bro. I honestly don't think it makes a difference in performance wether it faces forward or upward. it's not difficult at all.....the only difference between forward and upwards is the mounting bracket.

I do not ride with the sock on. I keep it in my fork bag in case it rains or I am riding in dustier conditions. It is a breathable fabric and will filter even smaller particles out. My spike air cleaner is a DM-425 Twister, chrome cone, chrome elbow, from D&M Custom Cycles.

I have a Danny Gray custom seat and it sits lower than the stock seat so I do not have a problem with leg room.

So the sock goes under the spike and you can leave it on and not worry about the rain?

Can you do this with all of the rain covers and spikes or just Kurakyn?

spike works the best facing forward where the most positive pressure exists

Had a D&M spike, It absolutely looked bad *** but it was not worth the money IMO. If you get stuck in the rain with or without a sock absolutely forget it. Sock is okay in a light drizzle or sprinkle. Washing or sitting outside (waiting for rain to pass) Plastic bag is a must! Just ordered a S&S Intake kit for my 07FXST
