Default transmission problem?

I have around 1,600 miles on my night train.. now we all know the clunk we get when we go from neutral to first. well when I get on it pretty good and I switch from 1st to 2nd 2nd gear engages so much harder than any other gear AND seems more hard of a engagment than when going from Neutral to first. Is this just how they are? I dont remember my nigthster doing it.

thinking about switching out the fluids to amsoil, a lot performace shop suggested running Drag Specialties 85/140 but seems way to thick for North Carolina weather.

any luck with Amsoil 20w-50 for the motor and primary and using 75w-110 or even going up to 75w-140 for the 6 speed?

I know this is beating a dead horse with a stick but please forgive the newbe...hate to mess up my 16k bike.

Thanks as always

I use Mobil 1 gear oil. 75w140. Smooth shifts in all gears. Your clutch might be out of adjustment a bit.

Im running Amsoil 75-90 gear lube in tranny, still here clunking now and then. Friends bike does exatly the same, part of owning a Harley i guess. Seems like all the Harley trannys ive heard are doing the same thing.

I switched to Spectro 75-140 six speed synthetic and it helped somewhat with the clunking. Biggest benefit was taking away the problem of finding neutral. Was a constant issue before.

I think any heavier lube will help. When I change I'll probably go to Belray since it's easier to find than the Spectro.

Thought the neutral issue was a Primary one, either through over filling or to heavy an oil. Using 10-40 Amsoil in primary, no issues at all with neutral. Even when i used 20-50 never had any issues, i believe most neutral issues are due to over filling. I know i strayed a little off your topic. Just talking about the neutral issue. Just saying.

Haven't heard that before. In any case it wasn't the issue with mine. The 75-140 definitely improved the overall shifting smoothness of my tranny and as I said eliminated my neutral problem.

Not getting into Oil debates but Amsoil 20W50 in the Engine and Primary and 75W110 in the Tranny was the best combo for me on the Heritage .. got 25,000 trouble free miles out of it after switching to that from Dino Oil... Plan on doing the same with new FLHT Next change..
