I find the riding position more comfortable with apes...its all prefrence. Definetly ride a few bikes with different bars (if possible) before making your final decision.
IMHO other bars offer better control of the bike than apes if you are a speed demon or a canyon carver...but if you just take it ease like I do, apes work well.
The other thing to consider is at freeway speeds, with the larger apes...id say 16" and up, you do sorta feel like a bit kite...there is a lot of wind blasting your upper body. That's something to consider if you don't like that feeling. It doesn't bother me but people who have takin my bike for a spin on the freeway have commented on the increased wind drag...and that it tires them out faster on longer rides.

Don't jump to conclusions without trying them. You gotta figure out how high you want them, how wide, you can always go with taller risers and shorter bars to get a certain height if your worried about bar wobble.
Don't jump on the drag bar band wagon if you are really wanting apes on your scoot, besides everyone and their mother puts t bars on standards and nightrains (me included). i'm changing my setup in due time
