Need new seat for 05 Softail Deluxe
My lady rides an 05 Deluxe. She has done some nice work matching the saddlebags to the seat, and adding pipes and SEAC, but she cannot take it on longer rides due to the seat. Any advice on seat replacements for the deluxe? My local dealer was little help and recommended Mustangs...but she won't let me buy one for her until she can test it. BTW, she would also like either a high back or the ability to add a backrest. Thanks in advance.

Try to find a heritage springer seat. I just put on on my 08 Deluxe. I never thought changing out my seat would really make that much difference but it sure did. It also has the basket weave pattern on it so it would match the saddlebags. With the large rail on the back you can add the tall backrest pad (which is now obsolete and hard to find).

After 3 different seats I settled on this wide vintage Mustang with riders backrest. Very comfortable on long rides. Only issues are:
It's wider on the sides so you lose about 3/4 inch on reaching the ground.
You have to replace the luggage rack (at least on my 07 Deluxe) so I found a replacement rack that mounts on the license plate bracket.
The Mustang is very well made, and did I say it was comfortable.

the piece on the fender is a fender bib .You can get one from www.hogdeluxe.com As far as the seat you can use yours and have it modified ,I hade an opolstery shop shave some foam out to set me back alittle and hade a gel pad installed.

Seat
Since you matched the seat with the saddlebags, you might consider re-working the existing seat. That's what I did. Sent it out to Americana Soft Seats, they will stuff it with a tempurpedic type material and also install gel pad. Mine is very comfy and much cheaper than getting new seat.

Love the Mustang Vintage Wide Solo.. 17.5 inches wide w/ Backrest.. Very comfortable -
It does hang over the sides a little - but I could not imagine riding on a seat that is 14" wide or less long distance.
I also went with a Mustang Pillion and Backrest - w/ Harley Detachable Sissy Bar.. w/ Docking Hardware..
The Docking Hardware will also allow you to use the Harley Luggage Rack..
Comes in Chrome and Black... I think these are pretty nice.
