Question Info on apes? Thinking of 12" for my Fat Boy

I sat on a used Fattie that had some apes on it. I didn't think to ask the dealership what size they were. I've started thinking I may want to change over to some apes on my bike. I always thought they were odd and couldn't be comfortable. When I ride solo my bars are a little too far forward for the best comfort for me.

Any pics of the shorter apes? I'm thinking 10" to 12"

With the Fat Boy having 1 1/4 bars will I have to change out the riser/bar clamp too? Do they make bars that stay 1 1/4" through the clamp area?

For the shorter bars do I still get the joy of buying all new lines?

Thanks for info guys. This is the kind of stuff I need to know to be informed about this decision. I will be doing the work myself and need to know what's involved and what parts will be needed

I just put 14" apes on my FLSTC. They are fine, but I believe the 12" bars would have been perfect. My guess would be that you will have to change all of your cables, brake line and wiring with anything over 8".

If you're going with apes, go with some you can hang from!

I was looking at the Chubby website. They look good. Still have lots of learning to do before I make up my mind.

Need to find out about the issue with the Fat Boy having the 1 1/4 bars at the clamp. That's prob going to require buying more parts.

Here's my Fatty with 13" 1.5" diameter apes. I've had stock, Carlini drags, knuckle bars, beach bars, and now these. I felt most comfortable with the beach bars which I'm probably going to put back on.

I agree. My bike had 12.5"s when I bought it and It drove me nuts till I swapped to the 16's. Not that it wasn't comfy cause it was real comfy, but I wanted it to be a bit more extreme. I don't know about the risers. I guess new fatboys have 1.5" bars and risers or something? I really only know about bikes that are the same as my year so I guess I'll shut up.
