I know what you mean I had the SE's put on when I got my Classic It helped but they are still pretty quite. I'm ordering a set of the V&H Fishtail II's I hate to do this never having heard them, but Ive never heard a bad thing about them so Ill let you know when I get them, it's going to be a couple of week's though.

I think if you're going to stick to the cross overs you will have a limited selection. But if you decided to do away with it you have as many choices as anyone else. I scrapped the cross overs for V&H short shots and love them. They look and sound great IMO. Of course I understand that the cross overs may be part of what attracts a person to the FLSTSC.

You've got a bike that is intended to evoke a late '40s Knuck or pan w/spring fork. Why not put on a set of pipes that were common back then, with a little modification to sweeten 'em up sound-wise? 2 into 1 head pipes, with a straight fishtail extension. They'll sound like no other HD, and they have that still-classic look. Here's what they look like on an old Shovel FLH:
