If you could magnify the surface on your painted tins and even your chrome it would look like the Rocky Mountains. That which you would be looking at to make it look like that is dirt and grime that has embedded itself on the surface. The clay bar picks that dirt and grime up and removes it from the surface. If you feel the clay bar dragging, even ever so lightly, it is doing what it is supposed to be doing and it is removing that surface dirt and grime. If clay bar glides over smooth as silk then you have removed all the dirt and grime. It does take an experienced hand to be able to tell the difference between the two, clean versus embedded dirt and grime.

If it feels smooth to you it is still working and doing what it is supposed to do. Then when you wax and seal it, it fills all those microscopic imperfections where you have removed the dirt and grime from the surface and it makes it a more smooth surface thus a more brilliant shine. That is what you see when you look at when you see million dollars cars on display. If you want to **** yourself there are waxes out there, for those million dollar cars, that runs 97,060 dollars. Yes, almost 100K for auto wax. I believe the next step down is a wax that goes for 65,000.00 both out of England I believe. Don't believe it? Google it and see. I have been detailing vehicles most of my life but the most expensive wax I ever used was 100 bucks and even then the owner of the car had to buy it themselves if that was what they wanted me to use. Ever heard " A million dollar shine"? That's where it comes from!!!

Thanks guys. Very informative. Might have to look out for one. Any recommended brands? (Especially ones known to be available this side if the pond!)

I use Bike Spirits. Buy it by the case and split the cost with a friend. Cuts the cost per can about in half.

During the summer heat In El Paso I would use optimum poli seal than opti coat. It doesn't melt off in the hot summer sun like a caranuba wax will. Than black fire black ice for the rest of the year. That was on my mustang but paint is paint.

Another +1 for Meguiars... but I keep a bottle of the HD spray wax for a quick touchup after rain.

I've been using Meguiar's products for over 30 years. I got a chance to try the Meguiar's Clay Kit today. When I was washing my truck the finish felt rough like it had a layer of overspray. The clay kit did a great job of lifting the I followed that with Meguiar's Ultimate liquid wax.

They have every detailing piece you'll ever need. Made in the USA, fully supported, and a ton of tutorial videos. I will swear by these guys until I die. Meguiars and mothers are ****.
