I just checked on this same subject at the local HD shop last Saturday. Labor came to 3.25 hours....with parts the estimate came in at just under $750. This was for my Road King so it shouldn't be much different for your bike (FL, right?).
Do they really change their rate on the fly? I'll have to learn to negociate...
I wanted to get mine done before I picked up my bike at the dealer, but I didn't want to wait 4 weeks extra to get the wheels chromed.
The dealer told me it's better to get it done in the Winter since their rates drop because of slower business in the Winter. This was at my dealer, you'll have to check if yours does the same.
Thank you, everybody. I should have thought about getting that done BEFORE I put my bike away. But I saw my friend's fork this weekend, and now I just have to have it too! I'm thinking that I could drop off my bike at the dealer on my way back from Daytona in March. That will probably be a busy time and more expensive but at least it won't cut into my riding time.
I never thought I would become such a Chrome Lady. Boy, that stuff is addictive!
IF you can't do this pretty simple job yourself, the next best thing is to disassemble the bike yourself and just take the fork legs to the dealer. any monkey with a manual can remove the fork legs. save yourself a ton of cash this way.

Agreed. The thing is, not everyone has a bike jack, the proper tools, or a place to do the work.
I had it done on my Deluxe back in Feb...I also had the chrome switch housing, levers, and braided lines done at the same time, but if I remember, just the labor to install the FE was about $250...about 4 hours labor... I did get a 15% discount on labor and parts at the time... :-)
