The springer back rest & rail are both still available from HD.

I know this is an old topic, but I had wanted to put on a backrest last year when I got my deluxe but I got so frustrated at trying to find the part number for the grabrail. So last Sunday after riding in a MDA carity event I started asking the parts people at our local dealer if they could identify the part--no luck. Well my husband finally asked the service manager today about it and he was able to find it on the parts computer and quickly retrieved it from the back! It is now installed on my seat and I'm now waiting for the pad. I'm so excited that I will have a backrest for my deluxe, but I just don't understand why HD has to be so difficult by not showing that a backrest is available for the deluxe. Also the parts guys know nothing more than what you can find in the catalog for yourself. If anyone else out there is interested in a backrest for their deluxe, I can supply the part number. It is still available. I will post a more current picture once I have the pad.

The bags on his Deluxe are the ones that are for the Softail Deluxe. They Harley davidson andare rigid frame bags with leather covering and list for around $750.00 ( I may be off a few bucks) Anyway the bags have a weave in them that matches the design of the seat on the deluxe.

Dido on the rail and tall backrest. I put a chrome spacer on mine; which pushed the backrest forward so that I didn't have to lean back into the backrest---it fits nicely against my back. Yep--I was told it wound't fit either-----ordered mine from Zanotti's-------I can't see the pics in my sig block because the internet police here in Iraq wont let me see them-----but I think they're there in my sig block.

Thanks to this thread, I just added the rail and tall backrest to my Deluxe as well. Got both parts from the Chicago HD dealer...took about 3 weeks to get the rail. Best investment I have made (well, for my comfort). I'm traveling this week and will post pics of my set up this weekend.

Hey, sfcmo, what type of spacer did you use to push your rail forward? I assume something between the middle post and mounting plate on the back of the seat?At 5' 8", I have to lean pretty far back to get the full benefit of the backrest and would love to move it forward just a bit.

Just ask for the 3/8 X 1/2 spacer and you should be good. And yep, you're right---fits between the middle post and mounting plate. The parts guy didn't know what I was asking for so I went to the service department---He walked out with boxes of different sizes and gave me one (chrome)---so I don't know the price---it's the only free thing I've ever gotten from HD>
