Spring Solo Seat on FXST 01
I am having problems installing a spring solo seat on my 2001 fxst
Has anyone used this kit ?
When I tried to install it I have two problems
1 - the bracket is way too wide for the seat mounts ? (you can see my finger in the picture between the bracket and the frame), it seems it would fit on the strut mounts, but that is just wrong !.
2 - Even the bolts of the seat won't go through the holes of the bracket.
3- The front end does not fit, there is a hinge in the end, but I am not sure how to fit that in the front ?

I am thinking about one of the bolts at the rear of the tank
There are two bolts, the larger one has a washer inside the frame and loosening it to the end makes it a b*&^tch to bring it back again, the other one which holds down the lower part of leather panel, is tiny and I am afraid it will not hold well for the force it should hold with me on the seat and all !.
mmmmm... this does not sound good at all

Front mount - Extend the piece with the bolt hole in it so it will slide up into the slot where the rear tank bolt fits. Drill and tap the hole in the extended piece so the tank bolt will thread into it. Order of assembly, top-to-bottom - tank bolt, lock washer, flat washer, through hole in frame, threaded into extended seat nose bracket, and use Loc-Tite!
Rear mounts, using original piece - To mount the rear bracket onto the existing seat bracket holes in the frame, cut the center out of the cross-piece of the new bracket. Make the cut so that the ends butt when the bracket is bolted to the frame. Butt weld the pieces together, or get a piece of flat bar and bridge the cut, welding or bolting everything together. Drill holes in the bracket to line up with the seat studs.
Rear mounts, fabricating a new piece - Go to Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. Get a piece of steel flat bar in the desired width. Mark it for width, heat with a propane torch at the marks,, bend to fit. Drill clearance holes for the frame mounts as needed. Drill and tap the holes for the spring mounts so the bolts can be threaded into the bracket. Sand, prime, paint.

Rule 1 .. stay out of Larosa LOL...
1 - Twin Mfg Spring solo seat kit (contains great cover that you can drill in it simply at home anywhere you want to put the springs anywhere you like, it comes with different holes in it but it is very flex.
2 - a peace of fur to cover the metal cover to enhance the look.
3 - A seat from ebay (sinister seats are awesome) but if you buy larosa, good luck, you can not with the bend in the seat and the angle of studs (I have a full album for that). get a seat with a bit of a 'kick in the back' so you do not slide.
4 - you can get a low profile front mounting bracket off ebay under 25$ but the kit from twin mgf has one that is higher.
5 - Different style springs to try (you will need to try a few ones).
6 - install and try..
You can see here a different seat I put with different location (a bit behind and lower) than the one in my sig.
The beauty of playing around with the kit from twin mfg + different spring sizes.
Take your time and you will get it right eventually.
