When my bike started doing that it was the begining of the end for the stator (going out). Eventually the engine light will come on and not go off..

The battery light didn't come on until the very end..

 

Sorry for my ignorance, but what do you mean by stator? I'm new to Harley's...

Not a problem. The stator is basically your alternator. It's in the left primary cover. I'm not saying that's what it is, but your description is nearly the same thing I had. It should generate a code at some point, but it's a simple check for the dealer to do.

I would say run a voltage check at the battery with the engine at 2500 rpm. You should get around 14.2-14.6 volts, if I remember correctly. You can do it, but if the failure is intermitting like mine was, you may not see anything.
